The update also incorporates the ability to run the game at 120 fps with a resolution of 1440p on the most powerful machine.

Blizzard Entertainment has announced the contents of the new update for Overwatch, its successful multiplayer title. The North American company has reported that patch 1.58 is quite bulky, but Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S players will appreciate the additions. The game will be optimized for the new generation of Microsoft with an improvement in both the resolution and the rate of images per second.

The game now offers three types of graphics modes: Resolution, Balance and Framerate. The first one prioritizes resolution and offers 4K and 60fps on Xbox Series X, while Xbox Series S runs at 1440p and 60fps. Instead, Balance mode focuses on image quality beyond resolution, that is, 1440p / 60fps on Xbox Series X and 1080p / 60fps on the second machine. Finally, the Framerate mode focuses its attention on this aspect and reaches 120 fps both on one machine and the other, although the most powerful reaches 1440p, while the Xbox Series S is displayed at 1080p.

No news from PS5

It is unknown if Blizzard Entertainment plans to release a similar update on PlayStation 5. At the moment the only information is that which has been published in the developer’s forums. The patch also serves to add some improvements, as well as to fix certain bugs that were still present in the game.

Overwatch is available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PS5 version works through backward compatibility. After an atypical BlizzCon coronavirus (fully digital), Blizzard continues to work on Overwatch 2, which has no release date yet. The developer has also not decided whether it will opt for an open beta for players to try the news.
