WRC: Neuville & Fourmaux’s Future Uncertain Beyond 2026

Thierry Neuville and Adrien Fourmaux unclear on WRC futures beyond 2026

Hyundai has yet to confirm its 2027 WRC plans, leaving Thierry Neuville and Adrien Fourmaux with an uncertain future.

Hyundai weighs 2027 participation

The Korean automaker is still undecided about any commitment beyond the current season. Its focus remains on 2026, with no build‑out strategy for a new Rally1 car to match the 2027 regulations.

The Rally2 option remains the sole path forward

Without a brand‑new Rally1 chassis, the only viable route for Hyundai in 2027 is to run its Rally2 vehicle. The car will be allowed to compete in the top category alongside the 2027 cars.

Sports director Andrew Wheatley confirmed that the team will use many existing parts but that the updates are “effectively a new car.”

FIA’s update kit and regulatory changes

Hyundai has not committed to the FIA‑announced Rally2 update kit, which introduces homologated front fenders, a front bumper, a rear aerodynamic device and a 10‑kg weight reduction.

Wheatley said the team is awaiting more FIA information before finalising the package, noting the testing programme for the updated Rally2 is “firming up” this quarter.

Driver reactions to the uncertainty

After finishing fourth at Rally Estonia, Neuville told Motorsport.com that he “has not yet heard a statement from the brand” and remains keen on staying with Hyundai in some capacity.

Fourmaux, who claimed a podium finish in Estonia, said he is open to racing a Rally2 car for a year before returning to Rally1, but would be dissatisfied if the hiatus lasted more than one season.

Future remains in limbo for top drivers

With Hyundai’s decision pending, Neuville and Fourmaux must wait for the Korean brand’s final direction. Their roles on the world stage will hinge on whether Hyundai confirms a 2027 WRC entry and the extent of the Rally2 updates.
