Rockstar has confirmed that the next installment of Grand Theft Auto will deliver an online component in 2027.
2027 Online Rollout Confirmed
In a detailed feature titled “The Making of Grand Theft Auto VI,” Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier disclosed that the studio intends to ship GTA 6’s online mode in 2027. The claim was reiterated by Twitch chief executive Dan Clancy, who confirmed the timeline in a recent interview.
At the time of the report, Rockstar developers were refraining from discussing the online part, choosing instead to concentrate on the game’s marketing. The company’s focus remains on positioning GTA 6 as a single‑player experience.

Industry Voices and Financials
Schreier’s article highlighted that GTA Online continues to generate roughly $500 million in annual revenue as of 2026. Take‑Two Interactive has also stated that the platform will be supported past the release of the new title.
Despite the persistent success of GTA Online, Rockstar has assured fans that the introduction of the new online mode will come after the single‑player launch, effectively extending the life of the existing service by at least a year.
Projected Platform Launch
Analysts speculate that GTA 6 could become available for PC in Q1 2027, a timeline that aligns with the anticipated release of the online mode. A simultaneous arrival across consoles and PC could ignite a larger player base and fortify the community from day one.
Budget Clarifications
Studio director Jennifer Kolbe addressed circulating figures, confirming the total budget never exceeded $1.5 billion. The comparison to the cost of constructing the Burj Khalifa was deemed exaggerated by the director.
