Mattighofen’s boss GOTTFRIED NEUMEISTER admitted the decision was beyond his control, saying he “tried” to keep the rider. “He said it wasn’t about a million etc. It was about racing spirit,” he explained, noting how the factory had relied increasingly on Acosta in recent MotoGP years.
