Ai Ogura will undergo a radiological examination this Tuesday to assess the left thumb he injured during an off‑season crash, a day before the San Marino Grand Prix.
Radiological Assessment Ahead of Misano
The former silverware‑bound rider, who faces the 203‑point tally that places him fifth in MotoGP, had the thumb sectioned by Dr Xavier Mir on 27 August. The injury forced him to skip the Aragon GP and triggered an intensive rehabilitation period.
In the jam session after the Silverstone sprint, Ogura scored nine points but crashed out of Sunday’s main race, prompting the rider’s travel to his home base in Japan where a second motocross crash proved the real test of his return.
Road to Fitness and Final Clearance
Tuesday’s check will be conducted at the Dexeus Clinic in Barcelona. Dr Mir will collaborate with the Trackhouse team before routing the results to the governing medical board.
If the preliminary findings are satisfactory, Ogura will travel to Misano for a final medical evaluation on Thursday, where MotoGP Medical Director Dr Angel Charte will grant the season‑critical license to race.
Trackhouse has inserted the Japanese rider on the provisional entry sheet for the San Marino GP. In the unlikely event of a final medical refusal, the season‑seven test rider Lorenzo Savadori will step into the Équipe slot, following the same contingency used at Aragon.
Strategic Impact on Championship Standings
With Jorge Martín leading at 256 points, Ogura’s absence has widened a 53‑point gap that also sees Marc Marquez, Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Di Giannantonio leapfrog him in the standings.
His potential return at Misano is crucial to restoring momentum and keeping the championship fight alive heading into the season’s final phases.
