Anthem 2.0 Moving Forward: BioWare Prepares Big Changes to Halberds

EA’s video game will be reformulated in a kind of reboot that is still underway. BioWare explains the changes that will apply at the playable level.

Anthem is still rebuilding. The BioWare video game, after fading in sales and online players shortly after its launch in early 2019, announced in February that it was going to be completely redesigned. The team in charge of the restart has published a new entry in the official blog where they advance some of the changes that they propose to incorporate in what we currently know under the tentative name of Anthem 2.0. Changes are coming to the Halberds.

First of all, they claim that, by spending so much time playing with the users themselves, they have realized that the compilations of the Halberds (Javelin) were not satisfactory enough. In this way, they want to improve the comfort of use of each type of Halberd and reformulate the concept of “build” behind each one. These are the most prominent changes to come soon.

No more randomization skills

  • Possibility of choosing and experimenting with equipment (Loadout)
  • All items will be sorted into one of the 11 available slots
  • The weapons are Primary or Secondary, which will allow to give a distinctive character to each type.
  • Mods and Artifact slots will replace Components
  • We can adjust the Equipment and Skills from the main screen (Loadout Screen)

On the other hand, the skills will be unlocked, they will not be obtained by random drops. It will be possible to equip them with Mods and builds will be defined through synergies with Specializations, Skills and Equipment.

As for the Halberds, they can level up always guaranteeing Skill Points, which can be invested in unlocking Skills, Passives and Stat improvements. Finally, each Specialization will have its own skill tree.

Anthem is undergoing “a long process” of reinvention

It was not an easy 2019 for Anthem. In August, Ben Irving announced his departure as executive producer at BioWare; While in November it was Chad Robertson, another veteran with fourteen years of experience in this firm, left his duties as head of the company’s live service.

The company already announced this May in the voice of its director that it was going to be “a long process”, so we should not expect it for 2021, far from it. So, they claimed to be working about 30 people on this development, which feels inside the Austin, Texas offices, like a reboot of Anthem. Also, they promised to be very transparent with the players. This new blog aims to be an exercise in such transparency.

Anthem is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and computer. It is unknown if Anthem 2.0 will be released on next-gen consoles, but it is assumed that it will be free for owners of the original title.
