Carlos Sainz Keeps His Seat at Williams for 2027 F1 Season

Carlos Sainz to remain at Williams for F1 2027

Williams has confirmed Carlos Sainz’s presence in its 2027 driver line‑up, signing the Spaniard to a multi‑year deal that follows the team’s announcement of Alex Albon’s one‑season extension.

Sainz Secures Future with Williams

The 31‑year‑old will begin his third season in the Yellow, retaining the team’s trust despite a disappointing 2026 campaign. Sainz’s quote in the official statement thanked the crew for their hard work and emphasized his commitment to turning the current performance pitfall into future success.

“I truly believe in the people that form this team, both at the factory and at the race tracks,” Sainz said. “We have what it takes to turn this around together.”

Team principal James Vowles echoed the sentiment, noting Sainz’s value in racecraft and in the engineers’ daily work to slice milliseconds.

“Carlos shares the belief and ambition we have at Williams and is pushing every day to deliver it,” Vowles concluded.

Albon Extends for a Sixth Season

Just one day after Sainz’s announcement, Alex Albon agreed to complete the 2027 campaign with Williams, marking his sixth year at the Grove‑based team.

The Thai‑British driver’s contract now runs until the close of next season, maintaining the midfield pair that secured fifth place in 2025 with two podiums.

2026 Performance and Challenges

Williams finished 2026 ninth in the constructors’ standings, amassing 11 points after 11 rounds and scoring nothing in the last five races. The season began with an overweight car that left the team focusing on weight reduction at the expense of aerodynamic development.

Speculation about Sainz leaving followed the lack of progress, but the only viable alternative would have been another mid‑field entry. His decision to stay reflects a shared trust between driver and organisation.

Team Perspective and Future Outlook

Williams frames Sainz’s extension as proof of the confidence both sides place in the partnership. The club, celebrating its 50th season in Formula 1, continues to invest in all areas required to re‑establish itself in the upper echelon.

“Along with Alex, I truly believe we have one of the strongest line‑ups on the grid, and a team capable of fighting for every ounce of performance together,” Vowles said.

Williams will look to combine the constructors’ history—nine titles, seven drivers’ championships, and 114 grand prix wins—with the renewed drive of Sainz and Albon as the team navigates its next decade.
