Control Resonant Lead Director Cites Sekiro for Inspiration, Sharing Runtime Stats

Control Resonant, Remedy Entertainment’s sequel to the 2019 title, will launch across Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC on 24 September 2026, with a longer playtime built around fast‑paced melee combat and RPG mechanics.

Mikael Kasurinen, the studio’s director, revealed during a rapid‑fire interview with MinnMax that the new entry will stretch beyond its predecessor’s chapter count, drawing inspiration from works such as Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Doom (2016) to shape its level structure and combat flow.

Repositioning the game from a third‑person shooter into a melee‑focused RPG, Kasurinen highlighted the shift through the “Aberrant” board used by protagonist Dylan Faden. Players will harvest resources to unlock alternate weapon forms, ranging from a massive hammer to a colossal whip.

According to Kasurinen, the endgame content will “look unrecognizable” compared to other titles yet to be seen, while the RPG system opens the door for diverse builds that can survive the toughest encounters.

The narrative thread will take Faden from the Oldest House into a distorted version of Manhattan, yet the game is engineered to stand alone: prior completion of Control, its AWE DLC, or Alan Wake 2 is unnecessary for immersion.

Early access on PlayStation 5 will be available exclusively to players who pre‑order the title, ensuring early adopters can dive into the new world ahead of the broader release.

Fast‑Paced Combat Draws from Iconic Titles

Kasurinen explained that the influence of Doom’s relentless momentum informs level design, while Sekiro’s precise mechanics guide the pacing of encounters.

A Shift to Melee‑Focused RPG Mechanics

The Æsacious board lets Dylan transform weapons, offering players the ability to tailor combat style to a high‑level RPG framework that encourages experimentation.

Endgame Content and Build Flexibility

Players will be able to assemble broken builds, taking full advantage of the game’s exploration, resource gathering and extensive modifiable weapon systems.

Standalone Story and Release Strategy

Because the game does not rely on earlier narrative installments, fans can begin the journey regardless of their backlog of label releases.

Launch and Early Access Availability

The September release will be simultaneous across all major platforms, with PlayStation 5 pre‑orders unlocking early access within the pre‑order window.
