A Kyle Busch memorial flag and hat worn by Denny Hamlin after his Michigan race win will never hit retail shelves, officials confirmed, citing a “one‑time use only” clause.
Design fuses Jessie Gibbs Racing and Richard Childress Racing icons
The patch blends the stylized No. 1 font of Joe Gibbs Racing with the No. 8 lettering of Richard Childress Racing, celebrating the two numbers most linked to Busch’s legacy. Hamlin noted reaching 62 Cup wins last week and a possible second win that month spurred the creation of this tribute.
Trademark restrictions keep the tribute exclusive
Because RCR holds the No. 8 design, JGR owns the No. 1, and Michael Jordan owns the Jumpman logo that features on Hamlin’s jerseys, the teams established a temporary licence preventing manufacture or sale beyond the event. All merchandised featuring the merged fonts is barred.
Joe Gibbs prepares further homage in the shop
“We’ll talk about what we want to do with it and anticipate an additional tribute in the shop this week,” Joe Gibbs said after the race. With Hamlin and Busch teammates from 2008 to 2022—a 15‑year partnership marking a NASCAR record—they plan a special display that highlights the shared history.
Although fans can’t own a piece of the champion’s memory, the one‑off flag and hat remain Hamlin’s personal tribute to Busch, who he repeatedly cited as a mentor. It stands alone as a wearable emblem of the driver’s impact and the deep respect the racing community maintains for him.
