Media Molecule had already spoken once about the fact that one can imagine to publish outstanding creations of the users in ‘Dreams’ as particularly valuable content. Ultimately, users could even make money from it.
This idea has by no means been rejected, as Creative Director Mark Healey mentioned again, but there are still major hurdles, especially from a licensing and financial perspective. The implementation is a “no-brainer” and you are already actively working in the background on how the players could monterarize their creations.
“The ultimate goal is that people can monetize their stuff somehow, but it’s a delicate balance. It’s not just about how you can get past the legal issues, but what you want to get past them. What is the model? ”
It is important to find the right balance here, also so as not to destroy the idea of sharing and working together. With financial aspects in the background, things can get complicated very quickly.
“Especially when you see the quality that comes from it, it’s just an obvious thing. I mean, some people are already really making money from it, just with their YouTube channels that show, “Look, look at how I time-lapse a game in 20 hours.”
It remains to be seen whether this will actually happen or ultimately fail due to complicated things. Here is a current and worthwhile creation, which is based on Fallout 4. For licensing reasons, however, this example would probably not be monetizable.
