Remedy Entertainment, Gen DESIGN and PlayDead will retain 100% of the rights to their intellectual properties.

Epic Games has announced a major cross-platform agreement with various studios to publish and produce their video games. Remedy Entertainment (Alan Wake, Control), gen DESIGN (The Last Guardian), and Playdead (Inside, Limbo) will be the first partners to join the Epic Games Publishing label. As highlighted by the publisher, this commitment will change the way the company approaches its publication model. The goal is to offer a more developer-friendly approach, so studios focus on designing their creations.

Along these lines, Epic Games has established three lines of action. Firstly, the creative freedom of the studios is guaranteed. "Developers retain 100% (of the rights) of all intellectual property." Second, Epic Games Publishing will finance all development costs, from salaries to expenses for marketing, QA, localization, etc. Finally, they explain that the benefits will be shared at 50%. "The studios earn a fair share for their work, once the costs are recovered."

Redefine the publishing method

"We're building the publishing model we've always wanted for ourselves when working with publishers," says Tim Sweeney, founder and CEO of Epic Games. And adds Hector Sánchez, head of the label: “Remedy Entertainment, gen DESING and Playdead are among the most talented and innovative studios in the industry, with strong approaches to their upcoming video games. They will be in complete control, while Epic provides strong funding and service support. ”

In another press release, Remedy herself mentioned the deal: "The first game is a triple-A multiplatform game that is already in pre-production and previously referred to as 'the third unannounced project.' The second is a smaller-scale project from the same franchise. Both are developed under Remedy's proprietary graphics engine, Northlight. ”

For its part, Epic Games has explained that they will offer more information in the coming months.
