Fabio Quartararo & Honda Power Championship: A Match Made in Heaven

Fabio Quartararo and Honda “a match made in heaven”

Fabio Quartararo has signed a two‑year contract with Honda, ending his decade‑long stint with Yamaha and setting the 2027 MotoGP season on a new trajectory.

Quartararo’s Switch Signals a Season’s Reset

The championship’s 2027 overhaul will treat every rider as a fresh contender, but Quartararo’s arrival at the HRC works will be his first ride on a non‑Yamaha machine. He confirmed the agreement in the winter, long before risking the new V4‑powered M1, and avoided negotiations with Yamaha for 2027 despite internal pressure.

Three‑time grand prix winner Cal Crutchlow welcomed the move, calling the pairing a “match made in heaven.” “I think it’ll be good,” Crutchlow said to MotoGP.com. “I know the way Fabio rides, I know his character and personality; he wants to win, Honda wants to win – there’s no reason why that won’t be a match made in heaven.” He added that “Fabio is a great rider, talent‑wise, he’s really up there on the grid, and he works hard.”

Honda’s Strategy and Emerging Cadets

Team manager Alberto Puig, slated to step down in 2027, highlighted the clear objective of the alliance. “Fabio is a world champion. He’s one of the fastest riders on the grid,” Puig said. “We’re happy for this. With manufacturers hungry for a title, the target is simple: get back to the top.”

Honda will field a new factory line‑up next year, with Quartararo joined by either current LCR rider Diogo Moreira or Moto2 star David Alonso. The main works seat remains undecided, while a second LCR position will be shared with Johann Zarco.

Looking Ahead

With all riders effectively starting from scratch under the 2027 regulations, Quartararo’s move to Honda presents a fresh opportunity for both champion and manufacturer to climb back to the forefront of MotoGP.
