Xbox launches Fable with 60‑fps mode for Series X|S
Fable now offers a dedicated 60‑frames‑per‑second experience on Xbox Series X|S, a revelation announced during Xbox’s Gamescom 2026 showcase.
During the event, Playground Games presented a playable demo of Fable Quest that ran at 60 fps on Ultra PC settings. The footage confirmed that the game’s performance mode maintains full speed while downscaling visual detail for smoother gameplay.
Three graphical options are now available on Xbox consoles: a 4K UHD mode capped at 30 fps, an HDR mode targeting approximately 40 fps, and the newly published 60 fps performance mode. These settings give players flexibility between visual fidelity and frame rate, especially on the less powerful Series S.
The announcement followed a brief period when the showcase build was found to have operated at 60 fps despite official 30 fps claims, a discrepancy reported by insider sources. It also highlighted the engine behind the visuals – the ForzaTech engine – and a refreshed combat system featured in the demo.
Prior to Gamescom, Playground redesigned a female character’s facial features for Fable’s aesthetic update, while other developers, such as Rebel Wolves, announced a performance mode for their titles that leans toward 30 fps on Series S.
Fable will launch on February 23, 2027 across Xbox Series X|S, PC, Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Cloud Gaming, with Day‑One Game Pass availability ensuring immediate access for subscribers.
