New Investment Surge in World Rally Championship
The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) confirmed that French automotive group Cosmobilis and investment firm Park Square Capital have secured the commercial rights for both the World Rally Championship (WRC) and European Rally Championship (ERC). The transaction marks the most significant change in franchise ownership for these events since 2013.
Strategic Direction Under Cosmobilis’ Leadership
Eric Boullier, former chief executive of Lotus and McLaren Formula 1 teams, has stepped in as WRC Promoter’s chief executive, bringing a seasoned motorsport pedigree. Jean‑Louis Mosca, chairman and CEO of Cosmobilis, emphasized the organisation’s commitment to uniting manufacturers, media, technology partners and fans through a data‑driven platform. Boullier outlined plans to elevate each WRC round into a globally streamed spectacle, emphasising fan engagement and sustainability.
FIA’s Endorsement and Growth Fund Initiative
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem described the deal as “the deal of the century for rallying” and highlighted the influx of capital that will serve the sport’s long‑term vision. A new FIA Growth Fund has been announced to support projects across all levels of rallying, from grassroots participation to championship‑level operations. The fund will channel FIA‑generated revenue into further development of the sport’s infrastructure and outreach.
Impact on 2027 Regulations and Calendar
With the new commercial partnership in place, the WRC is poised to launch radical technical regulations next year. The completed rights transfer is expected to streamline the development of the 2027 calendar and related sporting rules, allowing the FIA to align the championship’s structure with modern performance and environmental standards.
Ben Sulayem stressed that the partnership brings “real benefits to fans, competitors, and clubs worldwide.” The collaboration is seen as foundational for the next chapter of the WRC, positioning the championship as a driver of sustainable growth and a global benchmark for motorsport innovation.
