Tom Blomqvist has signed with Ford for its 2027 World Endurance Championship Hypercar programme, applying his Acura ARX‑06 experience to fast‑track early LMDh development.
Blomqvist Enters Ford’s LMDh Mission
Since joining Acura’s hospitality in 2022, Blomqvist has cultivated a deep understanding of the Oreca‑based ARX‑06 platform and forged a close working relationship with Oreca engineers. Ford’s strategy to partner with Oreca for its V8‑powered LMDh contender mirrors the successes of Alpine and Genesis, and Blomqvist believes the shared chassis heritage will simplify a difficult transition.
Transferring Knowledge to a New V8‑Powered Project
Under special dispensation from Honda, the driver will compete in most of Ford’s test programme before the March 2027 start‑line. He tells the press that the “spine and suspension are essentially the same” across the two cars, allowing him to pinpoint weak areas and streamline set‑up work. The navigator, however, remains that Ford still faces considerable challenges in engine, electronics and software development, but the foundational familiarity “should be decent from the start.”
Team Chemistry and Future Outlook
Ford’s roster, featuring Nick Yelloly, Matt Campbell, Logan Sargeant, Mike Rockenfeller and Sebastian Priaulx, echoes the star‑studied line‑ups of the WEC and IMSA series. Blomqvist stresses that despite the programme’s complexity, “the first year will be challenging, but it is no short‑term gig.” As the Blue Oval prepares for an elusive Le Mans victory, the collective expertise of the team offers a promising foundation for 2027.
