Pierre Gasly Frustrated with Alpine’s Recent Struggles

Pierre Gasly’s qualifying session at the Canadian Grand Prix was a disappointment, as he was eliminated in Q2 while his teammate Franco Colapinto made it to Q3. The French driver is growing increasingly concerned about the performance of his Alpine car, stating that “something is not right” since the Miami Grand Prix.
Qualifying Woes Continue
Gasly’s struggles in qualifying were not just down to bad luck. Although he hit a marmot during the session, damaging his car’s floor, he believes there are more fundamental issues at play. “It’s clear that something is not right for two weekends in a row,” he told Canal+. “I think there are many things to analyze today.”
The incident with the marmot did not help, but Gasly is adamant that there are other problems. “The fact that I hit the marmot damaged the floor, which didn’t help, but I think there are many other things that are not normal. So, there’s a lot of work ahead of us because we’re not where we should be.”
Performance Issues Persist
Gasly is struggling to understand what’s going wrong with his car. “I don’t really know what’s happening since Miami, but from my side, we’re nowhere,” he said to the international press, including Motorsport.com. “Before, we were easily in the top 10 and quite consistent with a good car, but now we’re struggling to brake, turn, and accelerate. There’s no grip at all.”
Evolutions Not the Sole Issue
The introduction of a significant package of upgrades at the Miami Grand Prix has been questioned by Gasly, but he is reluctant to point the finger directly. When asked if the team had correctly implemented the changes, he deferred to the team, saying, “You should ask the team.” Gasly believes there’s a more fundamental issue at play, stating, “I don’t think what we’re looking for is what the upgrades are bringing. I think there’s something more fundamental that we’re trying to understand from the data.”
Wet Weather Complicates Matters
With rain predicted for the Sunday race, Gasly is bracing himself for a difficult day. “It will be extremely complicated if it rains,” he said on Canal+. “We already struggle to get the tires warm in dry conditions, so I think it will be very, very complicated in the wet. I think it will be an elimination race.”
