George Russell marked his 100th Formula 1 start at Mercedes, a milestone he linked to the 12‑year relationship with team principal Toto Wolff.
100th Grand Prix Milestone
After debuting in 2017 with the Mercedes Junior Programme and moving to Williams in 2019, Russell returned to the German side as a stand‑in for Lewis Hamilton in 2020, eventually earning a full seat for the 2026 campaign.
He has now achieved six wins, twenty‑seven podiums, ten pole positions and eleven fastest laps across his career, with the latest season’s 32‑lap 1‑2 at Melbourne re‑igniting the team’s championship ambitions.
Tight Bond with Toto Wolff
Russell said the partnership with Wolfs has deepened through ups and downs, citing both the shared home‑base life, “together most days when we’re back home,” and the supportive network involving his partner Carmen, along with Susie and Toto.
“We’ve been through the highs and lows, from our Williams days to four years of relative failure, not fighting for a championship… to arriving back in Melbourne with a 1‑2 and feeling like we’re finally back,” Russell reflected, highlighting the resilience that fuels Mercedes’ competitive drive.
Drivers’ Standings
With 106 points, Russell sits third in the drivers’ championship; his teammate Kimi Antonelli leads with 156 points and Lewis Hamilton follows at 115 points. The upcoming Austrian Grand Prix from 26‑28 June will test the depth of Mercedes’ roster as the fight for the title continues.
