The Unstable Element, a glossy blue slab that appears in Fortnite’s teleporter tunnels, opens a vault containing relic chests and rare items in Chapter 7 Season 3.
What the Unstable Element Actually Does
This item functions like a keycard, granting access to a vault that holds a blue‑rare loot chest. Once you place it in an inventory slot, the vault interaction becomes visible next to a port‑a‑potty inside the tunnel.
Locating the Key Slab
The Element surfaces only after a player moves between teleporter tunnels. Five tunnels exist across the current map:
- North east of The Battlewoods point of interest
- North of Frosted Flats point of interest
- North west of Shaken Sanctuary point of interest
- West of Sinister Strip point of interest
- North of Calamari Canyon point of interest
Teleport to any of these locations, then exit from a different tunnel; a purple‑blue slab will appear. The slab is of Epic rarity and can be swapped into any free inventory slot, though only one Element can be held at a time.
Unlocking the Vault
With the Element equipped, move along the tunnel path until a blue door appears beside the port‑a‑potty. The door will display an “Open Vault” prompt. Press the interaction button to reveal a relic chest which can be opened for loot.
In a recent playthrough, the chest contained two Seven Sliders, a Stinger SMG, gold bars, an Earth Sprite, and a shield potion.
Common Questions
Is it possible to buy an Unstable Element from an NPC? No. The Element can only be found by traveling between teleporter tunnels.
Can the Element still be used if all tunnel vaults are already cleared? No. The vault interaction disappears once all vaults have been opened.
By mastering the teleporter‑tunnel circuit and collecting the Unstable Element, players can consistently access these vaults for a steady supply of high‑value loot during their Battle Royale sessions, sharpening their in‑game edge and improving resource flow.
