Guenther Steiner warns that Aston Martin’s forthcoming upgrade kit is unlikely to pull it past Williams, describing any higher leap as a miracle.
During the pre‑Belgian Grand Prix interview on The Red Flags Podcast, the former Haas team principal stated that the Silverstone outfit can realistically only match the performance of Williams, adding that closing the gap to the front is “half a step to the frontrunners.”
Steiner acknowledged the 2026 upgrade coming at the Hungarian Grand Prix but downplayed its impact, noting the four months it took the team to design the parts and questioning whether a single next update could bring championship‑level performance.
Under the helm of Lawrence Stroll, Aston Martin now sits tenth in the Constructors’ Championship after nine rounds, holding a single point only ahead of Cadillac, which scores none.
Two‑time champion Fernando Alonso collected that sole point with a 10th‑place finish at Monaco, yet both he and teammate Lance Stroll have recorded four and five retirements respectively, with Stroll not classified at the season‑opening Australian Grand Prix.
