Hayden Paddon secured a second‑place finish in the 2026 Rally Paraguay, the only podium of his return to the WRC after a hiatus that began in 2018.

Hyundai Motor Group had placed Paddon and co‑driver John Kennard on an asphalt‑focused slate of Monte Carlo, Croatia, and Japan. In response to the driver’s preference for loose surfaces, the team slotved the Paraguayan event as his base‑camp on gravel.
Commanding the First Day, Falling Just Short on Sunday
Paddon launched the rally in first place on Friday, giving the i20 N Rally1 a clear lead. However, Toyota’s Sami Pajari crossed the finish line ahead on Saturday, relegating Paddon to second and making the podium his second result of a four‑round stint, after inheriting third in Croatia when Thierry Neuville suffered a fatal crash on the final stage.

During the podium ceremony, Paddon described the result as “a proper podium” and “feels like a win.” He acknowledged the doubts raised by some and expressed gratitude for the support from Hyundai, his local PRG team and veteran co‑driver John Kennard, who has partnered with him for more than twenty‑two years.
Uncertain Path Forward, Continued Work with Hyundai
With the 2026 programme concluded, Paddon will remain working alongside Hyundai to advance the upgraded Rally2 car slated to return to the WRC next year. He also plans to compete in several New Zealand events and is scheduled for more testing sessions with the Korean‑led factory outfit.
