The Chaos Cubed update adds Sulfur, a luminous yellow block that appears exclusively in the new Sulfur Caves biome.
Locating the Sulfur‑rich underground
Sulfur Caves sit deep beneath the Overworld, marked by clusters of bright yellow Sulfur alongside crimson Cinnabar blocks. Surface‑level Sulfur Springs—natural pools of Sulfur and Magma—offer a shallow source and often sit above the larger cave system. Digging straight down from a spring can quickly connect you to the cavern network.
Alternatively, follow any natural cave opening and descend until you encounter toxic‑smelling Sulfur pools, which hint at a nearby Sulfur biome. The presence of red Cinnabar is a reliable indicator that the cavern contains abundant Sulfur.
For players who prefer precision, the /locate command pinpoints the nearest Sulfur Cave coordinates, while /tp teleports you directly to the spot.
Extracting Sulfur blocks
Any pickaxe of wood tier or higher mines Sulfur instantly; using bare hands yields nothing. The Fortune enchantment does not increase drop rates, so a standard pickaxe suffices.
Once harvested, the raw Sulfur block can be stored directly or processed into several decorative variants.
Crafting and applications
Sulfur serves both aesthetic and functional purposes. Crafting recipes (all performed on the 3×3 crafting grid) include:
- Polished Sulfur – 4 blocks in a square yields 4 polished blocks.
- Sulfur slabs – 3 blocks across the bottom row produce 6 slabs.
- Sulfur stairs – arranging 6 blocks in an L‑shape creates 4 stairs.
- Sulfur walls – fill the bottom two rows for 6 wall sections.
- Potent Sulfur – filling the entire grid with 9 blocks returns 1 potent block.
- Chiseled Sulfur – convert a single block on the grindstone to its chiseled form.
The Sulfur block also feeds the newly introduced Sulfur Cube mob. Supplying a block upgrades the creature to the “Regular” (football‑like) archetype, granting medium speed, bounce, and buoyancy, which enables makeshift stadium games or rapid travel in the End dimension without an Elytra.
Surface sightings of Sulfur remain scarce; they primarily emerge from Sulfur Springs together with Potent Sulfur and Magma. As players experiment with the block’s decorative and kinetic properties, the community will likely discover fresh building concepts and mini‑games centered around this vibrant addition.
