IndyCar’s inaugural Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at the new Streets of Markham circuit was delayed by unfinished track construction, prompting president J. Douglas Boles to publicly criticize promoter Green Savoree Racing Promotions.
Promoter Shortfall and Apology
Boles expressed deep disappointment that the circuit was not ready on schedule, despite IndyCar’s on‑site support. He slipped in a direct apology to the fans present, stating the organization “is incredibly disappointed” and that Ontario’s large turnout demonstrates the market’s value. While admitting logistical problems, Boles maintained confidence in the layout, saying it will be “spectacular” once the track is paved. He thanked city officials in Markham for their major assistance in creating a fast, technical venue that promises an exciting weekend.
Saturday’s New Session Plan
To accommodate the delay, IndyCar reshuffled Saturday’s timetable (Aug. 15, all times Eastern):
- Practice 1 – 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. (FS2)
- Practice 2 – 2:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. (FS1)
- Qualifying – 6:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. (FOX One) followed by 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. (FS2)
Qualifying will revert to the traditional road‑course knockout format and contest the NTT P1 Award, owing to the early‑evening time constraint.
Race Day Broadcast and Coverage
Sunday’s feature race will still begin at 12:00 p.m. ET on US and Canadian networks: FOX, FOX One, and TSN. Radio and digital streaming will be available through the IndyCar Radio app (OnlyBulls on SiriusXM channel 218) and the IndyCar App powered by NTT Data, delivering live audio for every session.
