Initial sales of PS5 and Xbox Series X will exceed those of the current generation, an analyst predicts

This analyst puts the price of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X at $ 500 as a condition for this forecast to be met for the future.

We are in the year of the arrival of the next generation of consoles – if the coronavirus does not avoid it – PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, both dated to reach the end of this 2020, and whose results are already beginning to forecast some of the most reputable analysts. One of them is Piers Harding-Rolls, of IHS Markit, who is convinced that the first sales results of the new consoles will be superior to those of the current ones, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Of course, provided they are not released with prices exorbitant.

The next generation figures

So that the price of both consoles is not considered as such, Harding-Rolls puts the limit at 500 dollars, a figure that as usual, would have direct conversion to our currency, the euro.

"Although there is much that we still do not know about next-generation consoles, my expectation is that both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will have a strong launch if there are no problems with the supply of components and they have an acceptable price range, let's say 499 dollars or less, ”says Harding Rolls.

Continue explaining your opinion. "By strong I mean they exceed the launch figures of PS4 and Xbox One," he says. “I maintain this view because PS4 has had a much larger user base than PS3, which puts Sony in a stronger position at launch. I also hope that Microsoft will have a more effective launch in the next generation compared to the one it had with Xbox One, and thus position itself better for the buyer. ”

That said, Harding-Rolls also expects subscription services, that is, Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Now, to have greater prominence in the next generation of consoles.

"In the next generation I expect a strong concentration in services to differentiate ourselves from the competition," he explains. “It is clear that Microsoft is very focused on Xbox Game Pass, but only as part of a set of ways to access content using different distribution and monetization models. I also don't expect a radical turn towards subscription services. I think Sony will also evolve with PlayStation Now. How both companies offer their services and how they integrate it into a broader offer will be a very important part of their relationship with consumers, ”he says in his forecast.
