Jules Gounon survives DTM crash, sustaining only a minor hand injury.

Jules Gounon suffers only minor hand injury in DTM crash

Jules Gounon injury was confirmed after a collision with Nicki Thiim at the Sachsenring DTM round, leaving the Mercedes‑AMG Works driver with a bruised left hand but no broken bones.

Medical assessment and recovery plan

Following initial checks at the Sachsenring Medical Centre, Gounon flew back to Andorra for further examinations, including an X‑ray and MRI. The scans revealed no fractures; only bone bruising and minor soft‑tissue damage. He was fitted with a splint and warned to rest the wrist for several days.

Impact on upcoming schedules

While the injury itself is not the reason, Gounon will skip the official DTM test at Hockenheim on 23 September. The travel from Japan, where he will race the World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Fuji, conflicts with the date. Mercedes‑AMG’s performance unit will likely field a replacement, with former DTM champion Luca Stolz a logical candidate.

Additional racing commitments

Gounon also had a planned appearance in the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint series at Zandvoort, stepping in for a Mercedes‑AMG Team 2 Seas entry. However, the shift to WEC in Japan has reshuffled his weekend agenda.

Gounon is expected to return to the fleet for the WEC race in Fuji, marking a swift comeback after his Sachsenring incident.
