F1 champion Lando Norris has announced a new junior‑racing venture, LN4 Fusion, which will compete in Formula 3 and Formula 4 from 2024 and seeks a 2027 Formula 2 licence.
Team launch and future plans
Norris, the McLaren driver who captured Formula 1’s title last year, teamed with British karting outfit Fusion Motorsport to form LN4 Fusion. The partnership acquired selected assets of AIX Racing and will field teams in the European single‑seater ladder, beginning with a 2024 entry in the FIA Formula 4 Championship and the subsequent season in Formula 3.
The group has applied for a 2027 Formula 2 entry and will use the Fusion brand as its platform for the junior motorsport structure.
Experienced leadership backbone
Former Prema boss Rene Rosin will serve as consultant and team principal for the team’s European operations in Veneto, Italy and is supported by ex‑Prema technology chief Guillaume Capietto, who joins as racing director.
Dan Richards takes on the CEO role across all assets, while long‑time Fusion executive Dan Hazlewood heads the UK operation, overseeing the British F4 entry and test programme based in Cambridgeshire.
Regional hubs and infrastructure
Veneto has been selected as the central hub for LN4 Fusion’s European activities, with the UK spearhead office and test facility situated in Cambridgeshire to nurture domestic talent and provide a seamless transition from karting to single‑seat racing.
LN4 Legacy programme for emerging drivers
Alongside the race team, Norris has set up the LN4 Legacy Programme, a fully‑funded driver development scheme that spans from grassroots karting to the upper echelons of the FIA ladder. Former Alpine sporting director Julian Rouse will oversee the initiative, ensuring that drivers receive the funding and support needed to progress.
Significance for junior motorsport
F1 chief Stefano Domenicali praised the move, saying, “Seeing Lando Norris involved in this new project underlines how crucial Formula 3 and Formula 2 are for Formula 1’s future.” He added that the venture will “build a future, with new drivers, engineers, mechanics, and a tradition that will be followed by motorsport lovers.”
Lorne Norris, who secured a long‑term extension with McLaren until 2030, highlighted the importance of opportunity, not just talent, in a junior‑driving career, explaining, “You need the right people around you, the right support and the right opportunities at the right time. That’s what these two projects are all about.”
