Race‑day strategy clash sparks radio tension
During the second half of the event, Hamilton grew irate over Ferrari’s lack of clear strategy updates, particularly after he was held up behind teammate Charles Leclerc, who was operating on older tyres. The frontline driver conjectured, “Great way of wasting time guys, good job,” as Leclerc finally made his pit stop on lap 43.
Ferrari’s communication approach explained
Team principal Eric Vasseur clarified that Ferrari had initially planned to pit Leclerc earlier but extended his stint by a lap to avoid traffic. The team also decided to withhold the final strategy from rivals, signalling a potential approach inspired by Mercedes’ seamless switch between George Russell and Kimi Antonelli. Hamilton acknowledged that Ferrari’s choice “didn’t alert our rivals to the plan” and that was a point of friction.
Hamilton takes responsibility and looks forward
In a text posted on social media, the seven‑time world champion wrote: “I’ve listened back to some of my radio and TV comments. In the heat of the moment frustration can come out, especially when you care as deeply as I do. That wasn’t the best version of me. I take responsibility for that, and I’ll be better.” He added that the passion driving him remains rooted in belief in the team’s progress and its future direction.
Despite the clash, Hamilton praised the recent upgrade programme that has enabled him and Leclerc to secure a race win earlier in the season. He celebrated the collective effort at the factory and on track, acknowledging that “the commitment and effort never go unnoticed.” The driver admitted there remains work to do, especially “over one lap, we’ll keep digging in, learning and improving together.”
The race finished with Charles Leclerc in fourth, Hamilton fifth, and Mercedes’ George Russell securing third after a late virtual safety car helped preserve position. Hamilton remains level on points with Russell in the drivers’ standings.
