The SRO Motorsports Group championship weekend at Misano tested the durability of the Maserati GT2s. Despite a blistering start, the drivers’ performance yielded a podium finish at the front of the field, only to be undone by the stewards who overturned the win in the post‑race review.
Vincent Biard, head of Maserati Motorsport, praised the cars’ resilience across the range of conditions and said the experience would prove valuable as the team pushes forward through the season.
“The races were demanding,” Biard told Motorsport.com, “and the cars from Emilia performed well in all weather, signaling good prospects ahead.”
Highlights from the Races
In the opening race, Antoine Potty launched from pole and led until an early exit forced him out of the lead, though he still recorded the fastest lap and kept the i4Race squad competitive.
Philippe Prette captured Masters class glory, while Yu Lee and N. Pirri secured a Pro/Am podium. Celia Martin made a strong debut paired with Luca Pirri, followed by a post‑race disqualification that escaped redemption in Race 2 when the duo contested the Masters class with a strong finish.
Biard underscored the i4Race team’s capability, saying, “i4Race is a competitive outfit that showcases the Maserati GT2’s performance.” He noted the car’s strength again on the demanding Misano circuit, especially as it maintained a top position in Race 2.
Looking Ahead
With Zandvoort and Portimao on the horizon, Maserati doorways the grid with confidence. “We anticipate more GT2 entries,” Biard added, “and expect to be even more competitive in both qualifiers and races.”
He projected the Masters title led by Prette while maintaining strong prospects in the Pro/Am class, suggesting that Maserati’s presence will shape the championship narrative at the next European venues.
