Max Verstappen says he misses no tension that once hovered over Red Bull Racing after Christian Horner’s exit.
When asked by the Press Association about the atmosphere under CEO Laurent Mekies, the four‑time world champion added that a “friendly relationship” within the paddock is preferable to constant friction.
Less friction, more focus
Verstappen admitted “I don’t miss the friction that was created when Christian Horner was leading the Red Bull Formula 1 team.” He believes that easing internal conflict removes distractions and lowers stress levels for everyone.
“It is less stressful,” the Dutchman said. “Everyone is leading a stressful life and, when you can take a bit of stress out of it at times, it is good.”
New leadership, new dynamics
Horner left the title of team principal after Red Bull removed him last year to address controversy and mixed results. Laurent Mekies, a former Racing Bull chief, stepped into the role at the Milton Keynes headquarters, guiding the team to a win earlier this season.
Verstappen reflected on Mekies’ impact: “It is not as spicy, but I obviously quite like how things are going at the moment, with everyone’s behaviour.”
Horner’s future in the paddock?
When queried about Horner’s potential return, the driver discussed rumours without commitment. He noted, “He has shown he did a good job. Of course, people spread a lot of rumours, and I don’t know how much of that is true.”
Verstappen added, “If there is a good opportunity, I am sure he will do it, but I don’t know where that is going to be.”
Although the spectacle can stay alive, Verstappen prefers fewer “spicy” issues inside the Red Bull workshop.
