Mick Schumacher’s IndyCar outing at the temporary Markham street circuit finished abruptly when a driving error sent him into the inside wall at Turn 4.
Turn 4 Mishap
Starting from 10th, the German moved past Russell Sabre‑cards and teammate Graham Rahal to ninth. After thirteen laps, Juncos‑Chevrolet’s Rinus “VeeKay” van Kalmthout pitted unexpectedly, promoting Schumacher to P8. On lap 15, a premature turn on the 180‑degree corner clipped the concrete edge, steering the car straight into the wall.
Schumacher said the incident was a “small touch” that opened the steering and sent him in the wrong direction.
Driver Commentary
He noted the car felt strong and the track was “really good,” yet the geometry of the concrete barriers made any lap feel sketchy. “There isn’t a round wall here,” he explained. “A little clip opens the steering and pushes you straight into the wall.”
Reflecting on the race, he said “we were not pushing hard, we had a very good car. I was just biding my time and got a bit closer to the wall than I wanted.”
Implications for Washington
Schumacher remarked that finishing a race is a key part of racing and that a better finish could have earned useful points. “Now we just have to look forward to Washington,” he added, highlighting the need to regroup after the setback.
