Minecraft Dungeons receives a new season pass. We review what to expect and our impressions with the additional content already released.
Minecraft Dungeons has been one of the main Game Pass additions as part of the Xbox factory. The brand was extended to other genres while maintaining the same spirit of the license. However, several mistakes made him achieve a passing scrape. That missed opportunity that we talked about in our Reviews has a redemption part in his season pass, which continues the hero pass.
In this piece we will review the impressions that The Jungle Awake, Spooky Winter and The Peaks of Howls have left us. While the last one is the first of the DLC expected for the season pass, the other two (available in the hero pass) give us an idea of what we can expect in 2021.
Between jungles and blizzards
It should be noted that each of the DLCs offers the same experience package: 3 new missions are included with the theme that gives rise to the content. Despite being included in the season pass, they can be purchased separately at a price of 5.99 euros. The relevance Double Eleven has wanted to give to difficulty is obvious. These playable challenges that we have encountered are a bit above the most challenging moments of the original game.
In the jungle, for example, the number of poisonous skeletons that appear takes center stage. During the usual scan they are there, they can be controlled remotely without problem. However, as wave encounters are common, they will put us in a bind. Receiving his arrows will progressively reduce health. Although it is one point less health, the negative drip is constant; we must properly ration health potions.
Of course, the environment helps a bit. Some enemies will drop watermelons, apples, and other healing items that complement the potion. Quite the opposite happens when tentacle plants come out, blocking the way until you eliminate them. In fact, these appear even when you enter boss areas.
The variety to which we alluded previously is reflected in the scenarios. The theme has part of impact on the exploration: if you go in the jungle you usually go over trees, while in Spooky Winter the ice affects the control of the character. That is the trend we wanted to see continue with respect to the base game. Remember the desert of the original, of which there were hardly any changes, or the swamp. Here the environment is part of the thematic proposal of the DLC. You start in the steppe and little by little, without realizing it, you are in the middle of some mysterious ruins.
On the other hand, we would have liked the change to go further, to modify part of the way you discover the levels. They continue to have the same tubular structure, branched between spaces that do not lead anywhere and others that follow the natural course; caves occupy the same place in relevance, totally secondary. The looteo is scarce, too, at the height of what has been seen all these months. Something is missing that removes the hornet’s nest and allows us to see another way to take advantage of a license that lends itself really well to this type of proposal, only that they need to hit the key to create a video game that hooks them to follow and makes you feel that you are taking advantage of the time What do you do?
Thanks to the DLC, you can count on a good assortment of new items to accumulate in your arsenal. The artifacts you receive can be taken to other worlds. If we go back to Winter, for example, one of the added wands gives the possibility of creating glaciers on top of enemies, which deal area damage in a similar way to the lightning bolts of the base mage. Las Cumbres de los Aullidos, the first of the new season pass, follows the same line as the first two that arrived, both for the good and for the bad.
Unfinished pass: looming future and where to buy
“Minecraft Dungeons is a want and I can’t. A game that fails to make simplicity a virtue. There is a lot of room for improvement, but it feels like a lost opportunity. There are serious problems in the mechanics related to the loot, as well as a level design very far from its rivals ”, we said in our Reviews.
