Joey Logano secured the Richmond Raceway checkered flag after a late challenge from Chase Briscoe, who had dominated the track by leading 171 of 400 laps.
Logano’s strategic long run seals the win
While Briscoe controlled the majority of the night, Logano executed a long‑run strategy in stage three that overrode Briscoe’s earlier advantage. The Roush Fenway duo took the lead in the final laps and held off Briscoe’s pursuit.
Briscoe’s frustrations and braking woes
Briscoe admitted that his last pit stop, where a braking lock‑up occurred just before the final run, was the point where momentum slipped away. “I thought that last run I was a little bit better than him,” he said, despite having led the most laps.
He also reflected on a season‑long struggle at Richmond. “It’s weird to be mad running second here. I’ve never finished in the top ten in nine starts at this track. Just to be that close and not get it done is still frustrating,” Briscoe explained.
Points battle stays intact with a second place finish
Briscoe’s runner‑up result keeps him positioned fifth in the standings, a place he could have lost with only two races remaining before the Chase. The gap to fourth‑place Tyler Reddick remains too wide to close with the season ending, but Briscoe now faces the task of defending his spot over the coming weekend.
Logano’s victory and Briscoe’s strong showing at Richmond set the stage for the final stretch of the season. The two teams will now focus on maximizing performance in the last two races before the championship playoffs begin.
