Nintendo Latin America’s vice‑president confirmed that Nintendo Switch 2 physical games will remain on the market, countering Sony’s planned end to physical discs in 2028.
Nintendo backs physical media for Switch 2
Bill van Zyll told Brazilian YouTuber Coelho no Japao the company “takes consumer preferences very much into consideration” and that the Switch 2 “offers both digital and physical games.” He added that Nintendo has no plans to abandon the format.
Latin American consumer preferences
Van Zyll stressed that Latin American players favor physical copies for their resale and sharing value, emphasizing a stronger tendency in Brazil and the region overall. He said “there is a preference for it. This happens in other places as well, but it is even stronger in Latin America and in Brazil.”
The next major title, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, will launch in physical form on November 5, 2026. Nintendo supplies Switch 2 games as cartridges or Game‑Key Cards instead of discs, offering a practical alternative to an all‑digital future.
Industry context and fan hope
While Sony surveys developers about disc production and NIS America’s president hints the console could reverse its disc‑killing decision, Nintendo remains committed to physical releases for the foreseeable future.
