Ollie Millroy discharged after Shanghai crash
Ollie Millroy has exited Shanghai United Family Hospital and will now continue his recovery at home after a fiery pile‑up on the China GT circuit.
Injury and treatment details
During Race 1, Millroy’s Ferrari 296 caught fire amid a multi‑vehicle incident. He sustained fractures to six ribs, a collarbone and a hand, while a punctured lung required a drainage tube and surgical plates and screws on several bones. In the days that followed, doctors performed a lung scan that confirmed a resolved pneumothorax and removed the drainage tube.
Hospital and personal support
Millroy, aided by his wife Fern, joined the hospital actively: a video interview, a visit from Loek Hartog and meetings with the surgeons that addressed his injuries. Hartog, who had halted his own Porsche to help, emphasised the importance of teamwork in safety situations.
Looking ahead
With the all‑clear from Shanghai United Family, Millroy will resume treatment at home while keeping a close eye on the recovery. He has already offered thanks to the medical staff and posted condolences for Fran Rueda, who will replace him in the Inception Racing Ferrari for IMSA’s Petit Le Mans.
Millroy stated, “Treat every day as if it’s your last, hold loved ones close, and remain aware of the fragility of life.” His return marks the beginning of the second chapter on his journey toward full recovery.
