Blizzard's long-term goal with 'Overwatch' is that both games will eventually merge, even if they stand for independent experience.
This was stated by Game Director Jeff Kaplan, who assumes that the clients will eventually converge. Especially from a competitive point of view, this makes sense.
"There will be a point where customers get together," says Kaplan. "We think this is important, especially as a competitive experience. The whole idea is to avoid fragmenting the player base and giving anyone a competitive advantage. If we play in the same competition pool, it's better if they do not have a better frame rate just because they're using a different version of the engine. "
It also matters that Overwatch is not a traditional successor, as you know about typical sequels, because things like loot and achievements can be transferred from Overwatch to Overwatch 2. Theoretically, the games already belong together.
When Overwatch 2 appears, however, is still unclear.
