Admitting the Misstep
The 22‑year‑old, still chasing his first grand prix victory, later explained that he was distracted by the dash, checking laps remaining and fuel levels. “I f***ed it up,” Acosta said, explaining he lost the key braking point because he was looking at his dashboard at a critical moment.
He added that his mixed strategy—trying to hold a lead while being cautious—also cost him focus. “I rolled off a bit to avoid risks,” he noted, acknowledging the lapse in concentration was a factor.
Questions for Sunday
When asked about how the Austrian Grand Prix might unfold, Acosta said the approach would remain consistent. “Zero. I have nothing to lose,” he replied, stating that the same style would be used for the main event.
Beyond the Sprint
Acosta is still hunting a grand prix win before the end of his partnership with KTM, after which he will join the Ducati factory squad. The remainder of the season will test whether he can translate his sprint energy into a full‑race triumph.
