Pietro Fittipaldi has declared that his next step is to climb the sportscar racing ladder, targeting a seat in the hypercar or GTP categories rather than revisiting IndyCar.
From IndyCar Interlude to Endurance Focus
After a brief stint with Rahal Letterman Racing in 2024, the 30‑year‑old Brazilian has redirected his career into the LMP2 series, simultaneously competing in the IMSA Sportscar Championship and the European Le Mans Series.
He has opted to forgo single‑seaters entirely, stating that he has no plans to return to IndyCar. This decision comes even as his younger brother, Enzo Fittipaldi, currently leads the Indy NXT championship and is still pursuing a path to IndyCar.
Early Ambitions in the Highest Tier
Fittipaldi’s interest in the sportscar elite predates his IndyCar move. When the LMDh and LMH vehicles gained eligibility for IMSA’s new GTP class in 2023, he was racing an Oreca 07 in the World Endurance Championship.
Those performances opened potential access to the British team’s hypercar programme, setting the stage for a leap to the top tier of endurance racing. However, those opportunities did not materialize, and the driver pivoted to IndyCar as a Haas F1 reserve before returning to the endurance circuit.
Achievements That Spark Future Goals
Fittipaldi’s résumé includes a class victory at the 2023 Monza 6 Hours and several podiums with Vector in the ELMS last season.
He declares that hypercar and GTP remain his ultimate objectives. “That’s the goal, really,” he said. “Before I chose to go to IndyCar in 2024 with Rahal, I had a few GTP opportunities.”
Family on the Track and Shared Ambition
Despite the split in focus, the Fittipaldi brothers experienced the dream of racing together at Daytona, competing as teammates for a chance at victory. They felt the thrill of partnership, although the finish did not bring a win.
In a statement to Motorsport.com, Pietro emphasized his full commitment to sportscar racing, noting that “Enzo needs to get a shot at IndyCar and I am sure with the right opportunity he will deliver.”
Looking Forward
With his IndyCar chapter closed, Fittipaldi is re‑igniting momentum in endurance racing, aiming to secure a seat in the heavyweight GTP or hypercar field as these categories continue to expand within IMSA and WEC.
As the next season unfolds, Fittipaldi’s trajectory will signal whether a Brazilian talent can transition from the single‑seat arena back into the pinnacle of global sportscar racing.
