PlatinumGames denies that Microsoft (Xbox) wants to buy the study

Given the insistent rumors, the company responsible for games like Bayonetta 3 or Nier: Automata assures that they are not interested.

It's been a few years since the collaboration between PlatinumGames and Microsoft came to an end. Scalebound, the sadly canceled title that both parties had in preparation, will not finally see the light of day. Nor does it appear that the studio will be part of Xbox Game Studios, at least in the current situation. Atsuhi Inaba, one of the top managers of PlatinumGames, has denied in an interview with VGC that Microsoft is going to buy the company. The producer has called this possibility crazy.

According to Inaba, at the stage his company is in, that strategy would be the opposite of the one they are currently developing, since they are trying to publish their own video games without depending on external publishers. "I have read rumors about Xbox's interest in buying PlatinumGames and I have thought that people on the internet write crazy things, because that conversation has never come." Still, he adds the following: "We are not Microsoft, so we do not know what is happening behind the scenes, we have no idea if they have thought about it."

Xbox has carried out an expansion strategy.

Xbox is interested in Japanese studies

Hideki Kamiya, one of the great creatives at PlatinumGames, recently joked about Microsoft's alleged interest in buying the company. "Perhaps someone remembers that I am still in the studio" and decide that they will not acquire it for that reason. Phil Spencer, the head of the Xbox division, has never referred to the purchase of PlatinumGames, although he has indicated that they would like to incorporate a Japanese studio to Xbox Game Studios.

In addition to the remastering of The Wonderful 101, the Japanese studio is preparing Project G.G., which will close the hero trilogy. Bayonetta 3, a Nintendo Switch exclusive, is also going ahead, despite the fact that there has been no information about it for months. Lastly, Square Enix promised new details for Babylon's Fall this summer.
