PNP Games, an independent Canadian retailer, launched the drive after Sony announced that it would discontinue the manufacture of physical game discs from 2028.
Responding to the decision, Jade Pearce of PNP Games warned that “ending physical media removes consumer choice, weakens local economies, and hands a few platform holders total control over how, and whether, you can access the games you buy.”
Industry Fallout
Physically‑based sales underpin a network of retailers, distributors, manufacturers, warehousing and logistics providers, as well as the pre‑owned and trade‑in market. The cessation could erase thousands of jobs and close an entire retail ecosystem.
The petition notes that an all‑digital future would erase the collector and preservation community that maintains game heritage and supports small businesses.
