Robert Shwartzman will drive Peugeot’s updated 9X8 Le Mans Hypercar next season.

The 26‑year‑old leaves the United States after Prema Racing’s IndyCar collapse, where he had secured pole for the 2025 Indianapolis 500.
He returns to the World Endurance Championship (WEC) Hypercar class under Team Peugeot TotalEnergies, taking the driver seat for the revised 2027 9X8.
Past Achievements
Shwartzman’s WEC résumé includes a win at the 2024 Austin round with Ferrari 499P LMH, alongside Robert Kubica and Yifei Ye.
Between 2022 and 2024 he was a test and reserve driver for Ferrari’s Formula‑1 outfit, and also raced a factory AF‑run entry in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup.
2027 Program Expectations
“I’m extremely happy to be returning after my time racing in the US,” Shwartzman said. “Endurance racing is something I missed, and I’ll help shape the 2027 story.
“The programme is thrilling, and I look forward to contributing to a new chapter for Peugeot.”
Peugeot’s Vision
Team principal Emmanuel Esnault praised Shwartzman’s “natural speed, adaptability and maturity,” adding that his mindset and positivity make him an ideal fit.
He highlighted the importance of building strong performance on both human and sporting fronts.
Testing Schedule
Shwartzman will first test the 2027 9X8 at the Algarve circuit this month, during Peugeot’s second run of the heavily revised car.
Other drivers, such as development rider Doriane Pin, are slated to run the 2026‑spec 9X8 at Paul Ricard in December.
Peugeot’s releases note that testing decisions are still finalised as the 2027 driver line‑up solidifies.
