Rovanpera Stays Open to 2027 Motorsport Path Ahead of Toyota Talks

Kalle Rovanpera "open" on 2027 motorsport future ahead of talks with Toyota

Kalle Rovanpera has cleared the way to resume his racing career after a health setback that halted his planned move to Super Formula.

Rovanpera cleared to return

After two years of health challenges, the Finnish two‑time world rally champion received Toyota’s official endorsement to re‑enter competitive motorsport next season.

Although his debut season in the Toyota Corolla GT AE86 at Rally Finland was just a demonstration, it marked his first time behind the wheel since stepping away from the WRC in late 2025.

First rally test after hiatus

Driving alongside co‑driver Jonne Halttunen, the 25‑year‑old tackled the Harju stage with enthusiasm, describing the outing as “so much fun.”

He noted that, after a year of limited driving, the experience re‑ignited his passion for rallying, and he appreciated seeing the service park, teammates, and familiar faces.

Rovanpera said recovery remained his priority, but he’s “already feeling good and healthy for a while,” underscoring his readiness to train again.

Future plans and industry outlook

When asked whether circuit racing remains on his wishlist, the driver said the idea “still lives very much in my plans,” though he isn’t yet certain of the exact direction.

He added that he will discuss options with Toyota, remaining open to their proposals and his own ideas, recognizing that a comprehensive plan is yet to materialize.

Maintaining a supportive role, Rovanpera keeps in touch with former teammate Takamoto Katsuta, offering guidance as the Japanese driver secures his first WRC win at the Safari Rally in Kenya.

Looking ahead, he expressed curiosity about the WRC’s future under its new commercial rights holder, hoping the changes will benefit the sport while acknowledging the complexity of the transition.
