Sega Netflix adaptations are set to reshape the studio’s classic catalog, beginning with a live‑action Crazy Taxi movie unveiled in a new multi‑picture pact.
Sega partners with Netflix on a trio of projects
The first feature takes fans back to the streets of the Dreamcast’s yellow cab, with writers Dan Gregor and Doug Mand—known for the The Naked Gun 2025 reboot—crafting the screenplay.
Following the film, an animated Sonic: The Hedgehog series will release, promised to be “cute yet cool” by Sega head producer Toru Nakahara. The third entry, a live‑action Stranger Than Heaven, adapts the 2027 title from RGG Studio into an action drama.
Netflix’s Brandon Riegg, VP of Nonfiction and Transmedia, praised the synergy: “Great games already have what every adaptation dreams of—characters people love, worlds they know by heart, and fandoms that show up.” He added, “With Crazy Taxi, Sonic, and Stranger Than Heaven we celebrate everything fans love while welcoming new viewers.”
Creative and production details from the franchisers
Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher, producers of the original Crazy Taxi film, echoed the partnership’s excitement, noting it honors “those who spent hours behind the wheel of a yellow cab on their Dreamcast, music cranked up, smashing through everything to earn the next fare.”
Sega described the Sonic series as a “high‑voltage, comedic, yet emotionally grounded” show aimed at kids craving edge, attitude, and the thrill of belonging to a crew.
Franchise buzz and upcoming releases
Sonic’s integration into Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 and the recent close of Crazy Taxi World Tour’s closed beta raise anticipation. Meanwhile, Stranger Than Heaven is slated for a January 14, 2027 launch.
