Sergio Pérez will return to the Formula 1 grid in 2026, lining up with Cadillac after a season‑long hiatus.
During the High Performance podcast, Pérez explained that attracting a new, powerful partner like Cadillac motivated him to re‑enter the sport. “When the project with Cadill… I knew this guy is very competitive,…” the Mexican driver told listeners, noting Dan Towriss’s ambition to elevate the program.
He added that the final months with Red Bull felt “toxic” and eroded his confidence. “No‑delivery at a team where the teammate is winning takes confidence away from you,” Pérez admitted, and that loss of belief pushed him toward a fresh challenge.
Despite Cadillac still finding its footing, Pérez maintains optimism. “We are only on our sixth race and a culture is building,” he said. “GM and TWG are two forces that will not stop until we reach the goal.”
Cadillac’s ownership stake is rooted in General Motors’ strategy, while the technical partnership with Technical World Group augments the squad’s developmental profile. Pérez’s role also has a promotional angle: “I can be part of it and show myself that I’m one of the best,” he stated, reinforcing his personal brand equity.
