RGG Studio has just released the first story trailer for Stranger Than Heaven, a game slated for release on January 15, 2027.
First Act Draws an Unsettled Hero to Japan
The trailer opens with Makoto Daito, a young man grappling with the loss of his parents at age 12, stowing away aboard a merchant vessel headed for the port of Kokura, Fukuoka. The ship, owned by the trader Orpheus, is portrayed by actor Snoop Dogg, who mentors Makoto through a harsh, unfamiliar city.
Upon arrival, Makoto is forced to confront hard living conditions that test his resolve. Orpheus’s protection eventually ushers him into the Yashima clan, setting the stage for a life intertwined with the underworld of early‑20th‑century Japan.
Chronological Journey Across Five Eras and Cities
Storytime begins in 1915 in Kokura, Fukuoka, and the film signals an overarching sweep that will encompass five distinct eras and five cities: 1929 in Kure, Hiroshima; 1943 in Minami, Osaka; 1951 in Atami, Shizuoka; and finally 1965 in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The timeline may intrigue fans who anticipate evolving gameplay environments.
Future Horizons: Release Dates & Licensing Partnerships
While the game has been postponed to mid‑January 2027, Sega has already announced a collaboration with Netflix to adapt Stranger Than Heaven, alongside Crazy Taxi and Sonic titles. The new date was confirmed during Summer Game Fest 2026 and is partly attributed to the impending release of GTA 6, which may have influenced the schedule shift.
RGG Studio plans to drop additional story trailers as launch approaches, promising deeper insight into Makoto’s path through historic Japan. Fans are encouraged to keep an eye out for new releases and to share their reactions in the comments section.
