After a few months in the ranks of Epic Games, Maxime Beland returns to be one of the leaders of the French editorial team.

Maxime Beland announced his departure from Ubisoft in 2019 and joined Epic Games, but his adventure with the creators of Fortnite has not lasted long. The creative director, who will be part of the gala company, according to VGC, will work in the editorial team, whose functions are focused on helping studies, supervising the work and establishing the design master lines. However, the Parisian team that is responsible for these tasks has just been restructured, since the commercial results of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint and The Division 2 have not met expectations.

Beland has worked for more than 20 years at Ubisoft. Throughout that long period, he has directed several installments of the Splinter Cell saga, but his experience goes beyond the series starring Sam Fisher. He was principal designer and creative director of Rainbow Six: Las Vegas. He was also in charge of the design of the original Assassin's Creed. As the leader of the Toronto study, he has coordinated the development of some portions of Far Cry 4, Far Cry Primal and Far Cry 5.

Changes in the editorial team

The influence of the Ubisoft editorial team has set the guidelines for the development of its video games in recent years. However, alarms have been activated after the failure of any of the recent titles. In addition, certain users have complained that Ubisoft video games are too similar. Before those voices that rise, the French have reacted with a restructuring of the aforementioned editorial team, which does not develop video games but does offer advice and supervises everything that comes out of the Ubisoft factory.

In order to differentiate the elements of its products, the directive has chosen to add new vice-presidencies, each with an assigned saga. From now on, the studies will have greater autonomy to make decisions, without the editorial team having to approve each of the movements they make.
