Opel’s Gen4 Gamble and Pourchaire’s Fit
The Gen4 package will debut in Paris, bringing a fresh powertrain, all‑wheel drive and rapid acceleration that aligns with Pourchaire’s recent single‑seater experience. In a statement, the Frenchman expressed enthusiasm for the move, noting the car’s performance qualities resonate with his racing philosophy.
From F2 Champion to International Endurance
Pourchaire’s résumé stretches from winning the 2023 FIA Formula 2 Championship to six IndyCar starts and a Super Formula outing in 2024, none of which were full‑season commitments. Most of his recent sprint season has been dominated by sportscar racing, with a full 2025 European Le Mans Series campaign and a campaign in the 2025 World Endurance Championship.
Stellantis Connections Fuel the Switch
Pourchaire’s stint in the WEC Hypercar class for Peugeot, itself a Stellantis subsidiary, set the stage for a return to the brand universe. He has also tested Formula E machinery for Maserati and Citroën and worked as a virtual instructor for the Mercedes‑F1 team, deepening his familiarity with the corporate conglomerate that now owns both Peugeot and Opel.
Line‑Up and Season Launch
Partnering with Mitch Evans—who remains the team’s title contender until the 2025/26 season’s conclusion—Pourchaire will share the cockpit with Evans and Sophia Florsch, who will focus on test and development duties during Opel’s debut season. Other confirmed drivers include Antonio Felix da Costa (Jaguar), Joel Eriksson (Envision), Jean‑Eric Vergne (Citroën), Nick Cassidy (Citroën), Jake Dennis (Andretti) and Felipe Drugovich (Andretti).
The campaign will open in Saudi Arabia on 18‑19 December 2026, marking the first race of the newly branded series under Opel’s banner. The full roster and schedule will be announced after the end of the 2025‑2026 season.
