Tyler Reddick spun into the outer wall at Iowa Speedway on lap four of the 350‑lap race, clipping Erik Jones and propelling both 23 XI Racing and Legacy Motor Club Toyotas into the garage.
The blast‑first corner saw Reddick’s No. 45 Toyota snap, shoving the No. 43 legacy into the wall just after the line. Damage forced both cars out of contention for the day.
Reddick faced a 84‑point deficit to the championship leader before the race, so the incident erodes his chances of reaching the comeback‑track reset near season end. Jones, 18th in the standings, was 44 points shy of the Chase cutoff, with the early wreck destroying his hopes.
Reddick Blames Loss of Control
“It just snapped on me,” Reddick said beside the care center. “If I was by myself, I could have saved it. We ran out of room, collided, and both wrecked. Acceptable? No. A teammate, a Toyota. Unacceptable.”
The 23 XI front‑runner admitted he has slipped past the points lead and now trails Denny Hamlin, citing six finishes of 25th or worse in the last nine races.
Jones Realises Chase Dreams Are Over
“Tyler just got loose and crashed,” Jones replied at the media scramble. “I know he didn’t mean it, but he also took himself out. Frustrating, it’s lap three, but it’s early.”
He added that a “long shot” from the Chase remains, stating that it would require a massive run in the final three races to make up. The four‑week run he needed is unlikely to materialise.
