Bottas cycling from Sepang to Singapore has earned a new place on his sprint‑track résumé.

Formula 1 veteran Valtteri Bottas has begun an endurance drive of 350 km—from the Sepang International Circuit to the Marina Bay Street Circuit—choosing a road trip over an airline flight after retiring from the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.
From Sepang to Marina Bay
The driver set off late Sunday evening, intending to finish his journey in stages and reach the media centre by Thursday to meet mandatory obligations.
The 217‑mile ride promises to give him a different perspective of the region, as highlighted by a fan: “It’s about five hours by car, maybe stop somewhere nice on the way. See a bit more of the world than hotel‑airport‑track.”
Race Day and Recovery
Bottas’s Bahrain outing was brief; a slick‑tyre strategy culminated in a spin into gravel nine laps from the finish, opening a safety car and ending the race early.
“The track would dry quicker, we thought it was worth trying something, but in the end it didn’t work out,” he said in the post‑race debrief. “I can only apologise to the team for my mistake.”
During the break, supporters noted that the decision felt unapologetically “Bottas‑ish,” and some called for the World Drivers’ Championship as a reward.
While the car‑based pedal challenge runs parallel to the paddock, the endurance quest underscores Bottas’s willingness to take unconventional routes in the pressure of back‑to‑back grands prix.
