Starting from fifth on the 12‑turn 1.964‑mile Portland International Raceway, the 25‑year‑old Dutch driver kept a calm pace, sidestepping on‑track chaos and benefiting from a swift late‑race pit stop that vaulted him ahead of both Marcus Ericsson and Kyle Kirkwood.
“We had a very good day. Starting up front saves you from taking risky moves that don’t pay off,” VeeKay said after the race. “The pit crew did a fantastic job, and we enjoyed a result that also put Chevy on the map of the awesomeness project.”
The performance marks VeeKay’s third fourth‑place finish in his last five outings, giving him five top‑10 finishes this season.
Set‑up Fixes and Season Strategy
After a struggle at Road America, the team targeted key adjustments in a productive test session at Mid‑Ohio. Driver VeeKay explained the change: “My testing in Mid‑Ohio really made a huge difference for our program. We found things that needed to shift, especially after the tough weekend.”
With the road‑course package now more consistent, VeeKay and the Juncos Hollinger Racing crew are focusing on two new street‑course rounds before the late‑season oval doubleheader in Milwaukee.
