Fermin Aldeguer is set to ride for VR46’s factory Ducati side starting in 2027, signalling a new chapter for the Spanish rider.
VR46 and Ducati, Aldeguer’s 2027 Leap
Aldeguer’s move was confirmed after Ducati renewed his contract in March, extending a 2+2‑year deal that originally secured his place for 2025 and 2026. The clause for a 2027 season was activated, guaranteeing a seat in the 850cc era of MotoGP.
Contractual Pathways and Factory Backing
Under the special collaboration agreement between Ducati and the Tavullia squad, Aldeguer will receive full factory support, including all technical material and the Borgo Panigale machinery used by Ducati’s main riders. He will thus share the same equipment as Marc Marquez, Pedro Acosta, and fellow VR46 teammate Nicolo Bulega, whose appointment is still pending.
Impending Retirement from Moto2 and 2025 Breakthrough
After a final season in Moto2, Aldeguer launched his MotoGP debut in 2025, claiming the rookie of the year title with a victory in the Indonesian Grand Prix and podiums in France and Austria. The season finished with an eighth‑place championship tally of 214 points.
Setbacks in 2026: Injuries and Recovery Efforts
The 2026 campaign was marred by a serious left‑leg injury sustained during off‑season training and a back injury during the Dutch GP, which sidelined him from several races. Despite these challenges, Aldeguer secured a second place at Barcelona and is currently preparing for a final medical clearance before the Aragon race.
Looking Ahead: 2029 and Rally for 24‑Year‑Old Talent
If the 2027 transition unfolds as planned, Aldeguer will step fully into the factory Ducati lineup in 2029 at just 24 years old, positioning him as one of the youngest factory riders in recent history.
