Warner Bros. wants to make 6 DC Universe movies a year starting in 2022

The president of DC Films promises to release four movies each year in theaters and two on HBO Max, to which all their spin-off series would be added.

Walter Hamada has it clear. The current president of DC Films wants the company to release six films from the DC universe each year. Four of them in cinemas and two on HBO Max, the company’s streaming platform (planned in Spain for the second half of 2021). This is what he has made known in an interview for The New York Times in which he has had no qualms about sharing some of the future plans of the production company. Hamada believes that they will be able to carry it out from 2022 and ensures that those six premieres should be added later to the series that come out of them and expand their universe on HBO Max. “Right now every time we study a proposal, a movie, we think of all the potential spin-offs that we could take advantage of later for HBO Max,” says Hamada himself in the newspaper.

One of the first practical examples of this policy will be The Batman, the new bat movie starring Robert Pattinson. After its theatrical release, HBO Max will host a spin-off of it known for now as Gotham Central. It will be set in the same universe as Matt Reeves’ film, it will focus on the corruption of Gotham’s police department and will show Batman’s first steps as a vigilante of the city, when he is more legend than reality and is always under the watchful eye of the forces of order. Gotham Cental will be something like “Year One of The Batman” and its responsible will be Terence Winter, the creator of Boardwalk Empire. But there are more projects like that, such as Peacemaker, an eight-episode series starring John Cena. By the time he comes out, Cena will have already brought his character to life on the big screen thanks to the Suicide Squad reboot that James Gunn (the director of Galaxy of the Galaxy) is preparing.

Which ones are confirmed for 2021 and 2022?

As for the number of premieres, it does not sound crazy if we remember all the dates and film adaptations announced in the recent DC Fandome. For 2021 we have on the way, in addition to The Batman and Suicide Squad, the films of Black Adam and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, of which we will have to see how much he has again. But 2022 is not far behind and already has on its calendar a date set for The Flash, Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods and Aquaman 2. As soon as some more names are added than those that are in the pre-production phase, It’s not unreasonable to think of reaching those six movies in 2021. With titles like Wonder Woman 3, Batgirl, Static, Nightwing and even Blackhawk, the question seems more when they will arrive than if they will finally be made.
